Key focus/scope
The NHS Southampton City pilot will focus on alcohol detoxification.
Overview of pilot and its purpose
The pilot will develop the use of personal health budgets specifically in relation to alcohol detoxification services, and contribute to regional and national work to promote the effective use of personal health budgets.
Objectives of pilot
The pilot aims to:
- work with providers to develop a wider range of more flexible/responsive detoxification services to ensure greater choice and flexibility in treatment and care options
- use personal health budgets to increase choice, enabling individual solutions to care and treatment needs
- determine assessment, risk management care planning, monitoring and review processes, consistent with the principles of personal health budgets
- outline barriers and solutions to using personal health budgets and inform future developments.
- determine whether or not increased choice and a more individual approach produces better outcomes and value for money
- identify potential collaborative commissioning arrangements and added value to be gained from such arrangements
