Key focus/scope
The Nottingham pilot will focus on personal health budgets for:
- patients with neurological conditions referred to the new Community Neurology Service
- patients with memory problems referred to the Intermediate Care Service at the Willows
- patients who become eligible for fully funded NHS continuing healthcare or joint funded health and social care packages
Overview of pilot and its purpose
As well as the focus outlined above, carers' experience of caring for a patient with a personal health budget will also be explored during the pilot.
As part of the national pilot programme, Nottingham will be involved in a joint learning opportunitythat will facilitate the development of a legal, affordable and integrated system for delivering personal health budgets, which fully supports the principles of the NHS as set out in the constitution.
Objectives of pilot
The pilot aims to explore:
- patient experience of receiving a personal health budget
- carer experience of the person they care for receiving a personal health budget
- the impact of patients and carers receiving a personal health budget on service providers
- the impact of patients and carers receiving a personal health budget on the use of health and social care services
- the systems and processes that are required to provide personal health budgets
- the impact of personal health budgets on health inequalities in Nottingham City.
